Car Carpet Replacement in Fort Worth
Car carpet replacement isn't a surface swap. The seats come out, old carpet comes out completely, and the new carpet gets cut and fitted to the vehicle's actual floor geometry — not draped over the old underlayment and tucked at the edges. It's part of our auto upholstery Fort Worth work, and we treat it with the same standard as seat or headliner replacement.
What Car Carpet Replacement Actually Involves
A proper carpet replacement means removing the front and rear seats, center console, and door sill trim — everything that sits on or around the carpet. The old carpet comes out in full. We inspect the floor pan and underlayment for rust, water damage, or deteriorated sound deadening, address anything that needs attention, then cut and fit the new carpet to the vehicle's floor geometry. Seats and hardware reinstall to factory spec.
Water Damage and Odor — What Actually Gets Fixed
New carpet over a wet or moldy underlayment brings the odor right back within weeks. When we remove the carpet, we inspect and address what's underneath. If the sound deadening has absorbed water or the floor pan has surface rust, that gets handled before the new carpet goes in. We flag what we find during assessment — not after the car is already disassembled. If water intrusion is still active (a door seal leak, sunroof drain), we'll note it — carpet replacement is a long-term fix only after the source is sealed.
Classic Car Carpet and Period-Correct Materials
Classic car carpet replacement is work we do regularly. The carpet in a vintage vehicle isn't interchangeable with modern automotive carpet — pile weight, loop vs. cut-pile, jute backing weight, and color all matter for period accuracy. For antique and classic car upholstery work, we source the right material spec and cut it to the original floor plan. Call ahead to describe the vehicle — sourcing sometimes takes a few days for specific classics.
In-shop only — bring the vehicle to 6925 E Lancaster Ave, Suite B, Fort Worth TX 76112. Mon–Fri 7AM–5PM, Sat 7AM–4PM. No appointment required for a free assessment.
When Carpet Replacement Makes Sense
Carpet replacement comes up for several distinct reasons — each with its own considerations. Water intrusion that reaches the carpet often reaches the car headliner too; both get assessed when either brings a vehicle in.
Water Damage
A slow sunroof drain, a failed door seal, or a window left cracked in a Fort Worth rainstorm can saturate the carpet and underlayment. The carpet surface may dry out but the padding underneath stays wet — mold and persistent odor follow. Carpet replacement with underlayment inspection is the correct fix.
Pet Odor and Staining
Pet accidents saturate through the carpet pile into the padding below. Surface cleaning addresses the visible stain — the odor source is in the padding and sometimes the floor pan. Pulling and replacing the carpet and underlayment is the only complete fix. We've seen vehicles that have been professionally detailed three times with odor still present — the source was never removed.
High-Mileage Wear
Driver's side carpet in a high-mileage vehicle wears through at the entry point and under the pedal area. Once the pile is gone, the backing shows and the edge frays. This is normal wear — carpet replacement restores the interior without the cost of addressing surfaces that don't need it.
Interior Refresh or Resale
New carpet is one of the highest-impact interior improvements for the cost — more visible than many other single-surface changes. For vehicles being prepared for resale or a major interior refresh, carpet replacement alongside car seat reupholstery produces a combined result that reads as essentially new interior.
Classic Car Restoration
Original carpet in a classic or vintage car rarely survives in good condition — decades of use, sun exposure, and any moisture events degrade the material completely. Period-correct carpet sourced to spec and cut to the original floor plan is part of a proper classic restoration. We handle both the sourcing and the fitting.
Combined Interior Work
Carpet replacement requires seats to be removed — which makes it the right time to also do seat reupholstery, since the seats are already out. Labor overlap is significant. Many customers combine carpet, seat work, and headliner into one shop visit rather than bringing the vehicle back multiple times.
How It Works
Four steps. The quote covers everything — no surprise underlayment charges after we've already started.
Assessment — Including Underlayment
We look at the carpet, lift edges where possible to assess the padding and floor pan, and check for moisture or rust. For water damage situations, this step is critical — it tells us what we're dealing with below the surface. Assessment is free; written quote before anything is scheduled.
Material Selection
We walk you through carpet options — pile weight, color, loop vs. cut-pile where applicable. For modern daily drivers, we match as close to OEM spec as practical. For classic car restorations, we source period-correct material if it requires procurement. Color and material are confirmed before the carpet is cut.
Full Removal and Replacement In-Shop
Seats, console, and trim come out. Old carpet and padding come out completely. Underlayment is replaced or treated as needed. New carpet is cut and fitted to the vehicle's floor geometry — not trimmed to what's easy. All hardware reinstalls to factory spec. All work done in-shop — not subcontracted.
Walkthrough and Pickup
We walk you through the finished interior before pickup — showing the carpet fit at the edges, under the seat rails, around the console, and at the sill. If the fit isn't right anywhere before you leave, it gets corrected. Most vehicles are done in one to two days.
Common Questions
Can you replace the carpet in any make and model of car?
Yes — daily drivers, trucks, SUVs, classic cars, and luxury vehicles. All makes and models. For standard vehicles we cut and fit from automotive carpet stock. For classic car restorations, we source period-correct carpet material — loop or cut-pile to match the original spec — and cut it to the vehicle's floor plan. Call (817) 623-0589 to describe the vehicle if it's unusual before bringing it in.
Does car carpet replacement include removing and reinstalling the seats?
Yes. Proper carpet replacement requires removing the seats, center console, and door sill trim to pull the old carpet and fit the new material correctly. We reinstall all hardware to factory spec after the carpet is in. Work done without removing the seats produces carpet that isn't correctly fitted under the seat mounts — it moves, bunches, and shows gaps at the edges.
Will new carpet fix odor from water damage or pets?
New carpet addresses odor that lives in the carpet material itself. However, odor that has penetrated the sound deadening or padding underneath the carpet won't be fixed by swapping the carpet — the source is below the surface. When we remove the old carpet, we inspect and address the underlayment. If sound deadening or padding is saturated or moldy, replacing it is part of a complete job. We flag this during assessment rather than discovering it mid-project.
What type of carpet do you use for car carpet replacement?
We use automotive-grade carpet — nylon or polyester pile in the weight appropriate for the vehicle type, with a backing that lays flat to the floor contours. The material is rated for the temperature cycling and UV exposure a vehicle interior sees. For classic car restorations, we source period-correct loop-pile or cut-pile to match the original specification.
How long does car carpet replacement take?
Most standard vehicles take one to two days. The time depends on how much hardware removal is needed, whether underlayment work is required, and the complexity of the floor plan. Classic car restorations with unusual floor geometry may take longer. We give you a confirmed timeline with the quote — not an estimate we revise after the car is already with us.
Can you do carpet replacement alongside seat reupholstery or headliner work?
Yes, and it's often the most efficient time to do it. Carpet replacement requires the seats to come out — which means combining it with seat reupholstery at the same visit makes sense, since the labor overlap is significant and the vehicle is already partially disassembled. Water damage that reaches the carpet often affects the headliner too. We assess what makes sense as a combined project and tell you upfront.
