My Upholstery Guys · 6925 E Lancaster Ave, Fort Worth TX · In-Shop Furniture Reupholstery
Sofas, loveseats, and sectional sections reupholstered in-shop in Fort Worth. New fabric, foam replacement, structural repairs — we assess the piece honestly at drop-off and tell you whether the project makes sense before we start.
Fort Worth Couch Reupholstery
The first question we answer at every drop-off. Not all sofas are worth the investment — and we tell you that upfront rather than taking money on a piece that won't hold up. Our full furniture reupholstery service covers chairs, headboards, and sectionals too. For the specific question of whether to reupholster or replace, when reupholstery beats replacement is worth reading before you bring the piece in.
What Makes a Sofa Worth Reupholstering
The frame is the deciding factor. A sofa with a solid hardwood frame — kiln-dried, properly joined, with eight-way hand-tied springs — will outlast any replacement furniture at the same price. That's the piece worth reupholstering. The structure has decades of life left; the only thing failing is the surface material. When we re-cover it, you get a better-fabric piece at a lower cost than replacement.
What Isn't Worth Reupholstering
Flat-pack furniture — particleboard frames, stapled joints, foam-over-plywood seat decks — is not worth reupholstering. The frame doesn't survive the disassembly process intact, and even if it does, it has limited remaining life. We see this a lot with big-box store sofas. If your piece cost under $800 new and the frame creaks, the reupholstery investment doesn't make financial sense. We'll tell you this at assessment. The consultation is free and honest.
Sofa Reupholstery vs. New Sofa
A sofa with good bones reupholstered in quality fabric will look better than anything at the same price point from a furniture store — because those stores are competing on price with the same grade of materials. You're choosing the fabric, the foam density, the stitching pattern, and the finish. The frame you already have. That combination is hard to match on a new-purchase budget. For cases where the piece just needs cushion foam and not new fabric, see our sofa cushion foam replacement service.
We don't build long-term client relationships by taking money on bad projects. If your sofa isn't worth reupholstering, we'll say so — and if it is, you'll leave knowing exactly what the scope and timeline are before we start. Bring it to 6925 E Lancaster Ave, Suite B, Fort Worth TX 76112. Mon–Fri 7AM–5PM, Sat 7AM–4PM.
What to Expect
We don't give price ranges over the phone — cost depends on too many variables that we have to see. What we can tell you is what moves the number and why. The in-shop assessment is free, the quote is written, and nothing starts until you approve it. If the only issue is worn-out foam, cushion foam replacement is a lighter scope with a lower price point.
Factor 01
Sofa Size and Construction
A loveseat takes less material and labor than a three-cushion sofa, which takes less than a sectional. Construction matters too — a tight-back sofa (no loose cushions) requires different techniques than a cushion-back sofa. Deep tufting, nail-head trim, and curved frames all add labor. We assess construction at drop-off before quoting.
Factor 02
Fabric Selection
Fabric is often the largest single variable in the cost. Performance fabric (Crypton, Sunbrella, pet-resistant weaves) costs more than standard upholstery fabric but has a substantially longer service life and holds up to cleaning. Natural linens and wovens are in between. If you're bringing your own fabric (COM — customer's own material), that changes the material portion of the cost. We can work with either. Fabric grade drives durability as much as it drives price.
Factor 03
Foam and Structural Condition
If the existing foam is still structurally sound — hasn't compressed flat or absorbed odor — we can re-cover it, which keeps cost down. When foam replacement is needed, we use appropriate-density material (firmer for seat cushions, softer for backs). Structural repairs — broken rails, shifted springs, failing joints — are quoted separately and assessed at drop-off. They're quoted before work starts, never discovered mid-project.
Sofa reupholstery cost compared to replacement: a quality sofa with a solid frame, reupholstered in good fabric, typically lands between the cost of a mid-grade new sofa and a high-end one — while producing a better result than either because you control the fabric and the frame is already broken in. The better comparison is against equivalent quality, not against the cheapest available replacement. Call (817) 623-0589 to describe the piece and we'll tell you if an in-person quote makes sense before you haul it in.
Pet Damage & Odor
Pet damage is one of the most common reasons sofas come through the shop. Our full breakdown of pet odor and stains on upholstered furniture covers what actually works and what doesn't. Here's the short version for couches specifically: surface cleaning doesn't fix it. The fabric and foam have to come out.
Why Surface Cleaning Doesn't Remove Pet Odor
Pet urine and odor compounds don't stay in the fabric surface — they soak through to the foam, the batting, and sometimes the frame cloth. Enzyme cleaners can reduce surface odor temporarily, but the compounds are in the material layers underneath. The smell returns when the sofa warms up or gets humid. The only real fix is removing the affected material and replacing it. We strip the old fabric and foam, treat any penetrated layers, and re-cover with new material. That's what holds long-term.
Claw Damage — What's Repairable, What Needs Full Recovery
Isolated claw damage — a torn corner, a punctured cushion cover, a pulled seam — can sometimes be repaired without full reupholstery. We assess this at drop-off. If the damage is extensive (large areas of the arm, back panels, multiple cushions), full reupholstery gives a consistent result; patches on heavily damaged areas show. Leather sofas with pet claw damage are good reupholstery candidates because the alternative — patching leather — rarely matches well on pieces with significant surface disruption.
Performance Fabric for Pet Households
If you're reupholstering a sofa in a pet household, fabric selection matters. Performance fabrics — tightly woven synthetics rated for cleanability, often with moisture barriers — resist pet hair embedding, clean more thoroughly after accidents, and hold up to claw friction better than natural-fiber alternatives. We'll walk you through the options during fabric selection. Choosing the right material for your household means a longer time before the sofa needs attention again.
Stains — When the Fabric Needs to Go
Set stains — particularly those that have been cleaned repeatedly with the wrong products, or that have penetrated to the foam — rarely come out completely even with professional cleaning. If the staining is extensive or has penetrated the foam, the most practical fix is reupholstery rather than repeated cleaning attempts. We'll tell you honestly at drop-off whether your piece is a cleaning or a reupholstery candidate. Custom fabric selection at that point means the replacement sofa is exactly what you want, not just a match to what you had.
How It Works
Drop off the piece, pick the fabric, get a written quote — then pick it up when it's done. Four steps, no surprises.
Drop Off & Assessment
Bring the sofa to 6925 E Lancaster Ave, Suite B, Fort Worth. We inspect the frame, springs, foam, and surface material — and tell you honestly whether the project makes sense. Structural issues are identified and quoted here, before anything is disassembled. No hidden scope additions after we've started.
Fabric & Foam Selection
We walk you through fabric options in person — grade, texture, weight, cleanability — and confirm yardage requirements. If you're bringing your own material, we check it here. We finalize foam specs: density for seat cushions, softer grade for back cushions. You sign off on the full written quote before any work starts.
In-Shop Reupholstery
All work is done in-shop by our Fort Worth team — not subcontracted. We strip the old material, address any odor or structural issues identified at assessment, replace foam as needed, and re-cover in the selected fabric. Most sofas take 7–14 business days depending on construction and whether fabric is in-stock or ordered.
Pickup & Care Notes
We call before your pickup date if we're ahead or behind. At pickup, we walk through the finished piece and cover care for the specific fabric — how to clean it, what to avoid, how to protect it from sun fading. Our guide on protecting upholstered furniture from heat and sun damage is particularly relevant for pieces going into rooms with direct afternoon sun. Better to know now than to discover a faded sofa in six months.
Common Questions
Is it worth reupholstering a couch?
It depends on the frame. A sofa with a solid hardwood frame, quality springs, and good construction is worth reupholstering — the frame will outlast any replacement at the same price. Flat-pack frames with stapled joints are not. Antiques and family pieces are worth reupholstering regardless of cost because they can't be replaced. We assess every piece at drop-off and tell you honestly before any work starts.
How much does couch reupholstery cost?
We give written quotes after looking at the piece — not a range over the phone. Cost depends on the sofa's size and construction, the fabric you choose, whether foam replacement is needed, and whether any structural work is required. The in-shop assessment is free. Call (817) 623-0589 to describe the piece or bring it to 6925 E Lancaster Ave, Suite B.
How long does sofa reupholstery take?
A standard sofa reupholstery takes 7–14 business days in-shop depending on construction complexity and whether fabric needs to be ordered. Sectional sections are quoted per section. We give you a firm pickup window at drop-off — not a range we adjust later. We call before the pickup date if we're ahead or behind.
Can you reupholster a couch with pet damage, odor, or stains?
Yes. Pet damage is one of the most common reasons sofas come through the shop. We remove the old fabric and foam entirely, address odor at the substrate level, and re-cover with new material. Odor lives in the foam and fabric backing — surface cleaning doesn't reach it. New fabric over untreated foam means the odor returns. We treat the source, not the symptom.
Can I bring my own fabric for sofa reupholstery?
Yes. Bring the fabric when you drop the sofa off — we confirm the yardage required and let you know if you have enough. COM (customer's own material) projects are common, especially when someone has found a specific pattern or weight they want. We also carry upholstery-grade materials in-shop and can special-order specific textures and patterns.
Do you replace the foam inside sofa cushions?
Yes. Foam assessment is part of every reupholstery project. If the existing foam is still in good condition, we re-cover it and keep the cost down. When foam has lost density, compressed permanently, or absorbed odor, we replace it with appropriate-density material — firmer for seat cushions, softer for back cushions. If foam replacement is the only thing the sofa needs, see our cushion foam replacement service.
