Motorcycle Seat Work in Fort Worth
Most riders don't need to bring the whole motorcycle. Unbolt the seat, bring it in, and pick it up recovered. It's the same upholstery work — just without the logistics of moving a full bike.
What Motorcycle Seat Work Actually Involves
A motorcycle seat is a seat pan (fiberglass or metal), a foam layer, and a cover — and all three can need attention. Cracked or peeling vinyl is a cover problem. A seat that's become hard or has lost its shape is a foam problem. A seat that's uncomfortable at highway speed may be both. We assess what your seat actually needs before recommending work — and we tell you when a cover-only job is sufficient and when the foam needs to be addressed.
Custom Seat Fabrication and Modifications
We also build custom seats from scratch for custom builds, bobbers, choppers, and cafe racers where the OEM seat doesn't fit the build direction. Height reduction, extended reach, sofa-style two-up modifications, and pillion seat integration are all work we handle. For riders looking to complement the seat with custom motorcycle saddle bags, we can coordinate the work so materials match.
Materials Built for Texas Heat and Outdoor Exposure
We use marine-grade vinyl and top-grain leather for motorcycle seats — not standard furniture vinyl. Motorcycle seats live outside in the sun. Marine-grade vinyl handles UV exposure and heat far better than automotive or furniture vinyl because the UV inhibitors are built into the material, not applied to the surface. For riders who want a premium look and feel, leather remains the best option and holds up with basic care.
Bring just the seat to 6925 E Lancaster Ave, Suite B, Fort Worth TX 76112. Mon–Fri 7AM–5PM, Sat 7AM–4PM. Call (817) 623-0589 to describe your project or book online.
What We Do
From a straightforward recover to a full custom seat — here's what each service involves and when it applies.
Seat Recovering
The seat pan and foam are sound, but the cover has cracked, peeled, or torn. We remove the old cover, inspect the foam, and apply a new cover in your choice of marine-grade vinyl or leather. Most standard recovers: 2–4 business days. Bring just the seat — no need for the bike.
Foam Reshaping
Foam that has compressed, hardened, or lost its profile is rebuilt or replaced. Foam reshaping is also how we do seat height reduction — removing material from the underside and saddle area to lower the seat 1–2 inches without eliminating support. New cover applied after foam work.
Gel Insert Installation
A gel layer under the cover distributes pressure across a larger surface area — reducing fatigue on long rides. Commonly added to touring bike and cruiser seats for highway use. The gel is integrated into the foam layer before recovering, not glued to the top surface.
Custom Stitching Patterns
Diamond tuck, channel stitch, biker stitch, contrast thread — custom stitching patterns are available on any seat recovery or custom build. Bring a reference photo of the design you want. Custom pattern work adds time; plan for 5–7 business days and specify the design at the quote stage.
Two-Tone & Custom Color
Two-tone color combinations — contrasting side panels, colored stitching on a black seat, white and black on a custom build — are available in both vinyl and leather. Color matching to existing bike trim is also something we do. Bring a trim sample or color code and we'll work from there.
Custom Seat Fabrication
For custom builds, bobbers, choppers, and cafe racers where the OEM seat doesn't exist or doesn't fit the vision — we fabricate from scratch. Seat pan modification (fiberglass or aluminum), foam shaping to profile, and cover to spec. Timelines vary by complexity; discuss the build at the quote stage.
Bike Types We Work On
Different bike styles have different seat demands — here's how we approach each category and what's typically involved.
Harley-Davidson & Cruisers
The most common bikes we see. Standard seat recover in black or two-tone leather or vinyl, height reduction for shorter riders, and gel inserts for long-haul comfort are the typical requests. Road King, Softail, Sportster, Fat Boy, Heritage — all common. OEM seat shape is generally preserved unless a custom profile is requested.
Bobbers & Choppers
Custom builds where the seat is part of the design. Typically a solo seat — small profile, low slung, often a tuck-and-roll or diamond pattern in black or brown leather. We fabricate seat pans to fit non-standard frames and build the foam profile from scratch. Longer timelines — bring the seat pan or frame dimension reference.
Cafe Racers
Cafe racer seat work is usually a brat-style or hump-seat fabrication — narrow, flat profile, sometimes with a seat-and-tail-piece integration. Leather is standard for the style. We build the foam, cover in aged leather or smooth grain, and match any contrast stitching to the build color scheme.
Sport Bikes
Sport bike seats are smaller and stiffer — the foam is denser to support riding position under acceleration. Recovering is the most common request (UV-cracked vinyl is a frequent issue). Height work is possible but more limited on sport bikes due to the seat pan geometry. Yamaha R series, Honda CBR, Kawasaki Ninja, Suzuki GSX-R — all handled.
Touring Bikes
Touring bike seats — Harley Touring, Honda Gold Wing, BMW RT, Indian Roadmaster — prioritize long-distance comfort over style. Gel inserts and foam reshaping to restore original profile are the most common requests. Pillion seats are handled at the same time — and if the backrest pad also needs attention, our guide on motorcycle backrest repair and pad replacement covers how that work goes. We cover in matched materials so front and rear seats coordinate.
Vintage & Classic Motorcycles
Vintage bikes require period-appropriate materials — no modern textures or gloss finishes that look out of place on a 1960s or 1970s build. We source correct vinyl weights and leather grades for the era, and can replicate original tuck patterns from reference photos. Good vintage seat work is invisible — it looks like it came with the bike.
How It Works
Unbolt it, bring it in, pick it up. Here's what happens in between.
Bring the Seat In
Remove the seat from your bike and bring it to 6925 E Lancaster Ave, Suite B, Fort Worth. For standard bikes, this is 2–4 bolts. Call (817) 623-0589 first if you want to describe the project or confirm we have the right materials in your color before making the trip. No appointment needed for an assessment.
Assessment & Quote
We strip the old cover, inspect the foam, and tell you what it needs — cover only, foam work, or both. We discuss material options and any custom details: height reduction, stitching pattern, two-tone colors, gel insert. Written quote before any work starts. No obligation if you decide to wait.
In-Shop Work
All work is done in-shop by our Fort Worth upholstery craftsmen. Foam work, cover cutting, sewing, and stapling to the pan — all handled in sequence. Custom pattern work is sewn before the cover is pulled over the foam and tacked to the pan. We don't outsource any stage of the seat.
Pickup & Install
Pick up the seat, bolt it back on. We walk you through the work when you pick up — showing the stitching, the fit, and any care instructions for the material. Standard recovers take 2–4 business days. Custom builds and pattern work take 5–7 days. You'll know the timeline at the quote stage.
Common Questions
Do I need to bring the whole motorcycle in, or just the seat?
In most cases, just the seat. Motorcycle seats on cruisers, Harleys, sport bikes, and most touring bikes unbolt easily and can be transported without the motorcycle. You bring the seat, we recover it, and you bolt it back on when you pick it up. If the seat is integrated in an unusual way, call (817) 623-0589 first to describe your setup.
What motorcycle seat services does My Upholstery Guys offer?
We offer seat recovering, custom seat fabrication, foam reshaping and height modification, gel insert installation, stitching patterns (diamond tuck, channel, biker stitch), and pillion seat work. We work on Harley-Davidson, Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Indian, Victory, Triumph, BMW, and all other brands. Bobbers, choppers, cafe racers, cruisers, sport bikes, touring bikes, and vintage builds.
What materials do you use for motorcycle seat upholstery?
We primarily use marine-grade vinyl and top-grain leather for motorcycle seats. Both are weather-resistant and hold up to Texas heat and UV far better than standard furniture or automotive vinyl. Marine vinyl is the more economical choice and the most common on production-bike recoveries. Leather is chosen for custom builds and show bikes. We match the material to the bike's build quality and how it will be used.
Can you lower my motorcycle seat height?
Yes — seat height reduction is one of the most common modifications we do. We reshape the foam by removing material from the underside and seat surface to bring the height down while maintaining rider support. We can typically lower a seat 1–2 inches without compromising ride quality. Bring the seat in and we'll assess what's achievable based on your current foam profile.
How long does motorcycle seat recovering take in Fort Worth?
Standard seat recovering typically takes 2–4 business days. Custom seats built from scratch or complex setups with custom stitching patterns take 5–7 business days depending on our current queue. We give you a real turnaround at the quote stage. Call (817) 623-0589 or bring the seat in.
Can you add custom stitching patterns or two-tone colors to my motorcycle seat?
Yes. Diamond tuck, channel stitching, contrast thread, biker stitch, and two-tone color combinations are all work we do. Custom pattern work adds time — plan for 5–7 business days and discuss the design at the quote stage. Bring a reference photo of the pattern you want. We can execute most designs; if something is outside what we can do cleanly, we'll tell you upfront.
